Il s'agit des personnes qui m'ont contacté et qui ne savent pas à quelle branche des Mamou se raccrocher. Peut
être qu'en lisant leur histoire quelqu'un pourra les aider... |

13/02/2009 Unfortuantely I do not speak French only a little bit so I will write in English. I found your family website on the internet. My grandmother surname is Mamou from the father side. I know that they are jewish and they come from North Africa. I do not know much because I do not have a contact with my father family. I live in Poland with my mother. I`m coming here to the jewish community and I would like to know more about my heritage. Maybe You can tell me something more about Mamou family. Szabat szalom Sylwia |
24/02/2009 Bonjour, Thank You so much for your reply. I`m sorry I did not reply immediately but I went for the trip to Berlin. I`m very happy to hear from You. My name is Sylvia Jozwiak I`m jewish and I had jewish education by Lauder Foundation and also by local jewish community. I live in a quite big city in Poland, Lodz. I was born in 1981 so beck than it was not so easy for jewish people in Poland but We stayed also in France in Marseillie and in Paris with my father and my mother. After death of my father my mom moved to Poland ( I was six years old). My father`s parents come from North Africa Algeria, my grandmother name was Zohar (Seligman) Mamou and my grandfather name was Benjamin Mamou. I think they met in Algeria. I know that after Algeria gain independence they moved to France to Marseillie. My father name is Isaak Mamou and my mother name is Yvonne Jozwiak. Unfortunately, My father died and I do not have so much information about his family. I know his sister Leya live in United States.
In Poland Jewish community is mainly Ashkenazi so when I was growing up I did not know so much about Sefardic jewish tradition exept of memories of my grandmother house which are beautyful. I was very close to her. Grandfather died before I was born so I did not know him. When I went to United States I visited Sefardic synagogues and later in Paris and I feel great connection to Sefardic culture.' When I was a student I started to be more and more interested about my roots. I wrote my master thesis about " Jews of North Africa". When I was searching internet I found your website and the same surname like my family so I decided to write to You. I will try to translate as much as I can. Merci beaucoup, Sylvia |
